"la smala" means "family" or "tribe"
The family is at the heart of our relationships with the world. In this small unit, we learn how to interact with one another. That is why its structure itself is important when considering life-changing events such as the birth of a new child. At the heart of our interactions rests your family, and its growth, through pregnancy, birth and the early stage of a new life.
b.a.b.a: birth and baby advocate
Through education, a baba has learned to trust the natural function of biology that is birth. Through her knowledge of physiology and of what Sarah Buckley refers to as "the hormonal cocktail of birth", she knows how interference affects birth. She knows that women intrinsically know how to birth deep down in their mammalian roots, and that babies also know how to be born. Because she knows what a normal birth looks and feels like, she can identify deviations and knows when intervention is needed.
She also believes that you have the power of choice in regards to your birth and beyond. This means that she will offer you all the educational support you may dream of, and that she will support YOUR decisions in birth: YOUR body, YOUR baby, YOUR choice - without limitations.
Paule Bézaire has been studying birth education and midwifery since 2008. She has enrolled is a variety of educational programs:
- She received her doula training from CAPPA but chose to discontinue her support because of philosophical discordance with their policy on unassisted birth.
- She did an introduction to midwifery with Womancraft Midwifery.
- Looking for a deeper and more complete midwifery program, she chose to join the Ancient Art Midwifery Institute to further her education.
- Took at Neonatal Resuscitation class with Karen Strange [to be renewed]
- Attended several workshops at various conferences, such as the Trust Birth Conference, Yoni Fest and the annual MANA conference.
